constipation : home remedies to relieve your discomfort !

Constipation.. a problem awkward to discuss and quite uneasy to bear! It is a common condition in which there is  less frequency in the excretion of bowel from the body. Some of the main causes of constipation are poor diet, insufficient water intakelack of physical activity, stress, intake of certain medications, and laxative abuse etc.

Constipation can be really troublesome if not treated on time so, here are some easy yet very effective home remedies that work best in order to cure this problem.


Big raisins also referred as munakka are one of the oldest home remedies for constipation. It is high in fibre and also has laxative effect. All you need to do is:monaka

  1. Take 250 ml of milk in a pan and put it on gas.
  2. Now take 10-12 big raisins, wash and deseed them.
  3. Put these raisins into milk and bring it to a boil.
  4. After a boil comes, simmer the gas and let it cook for some 5-7 minutes more.
  5. Switch off the gas and strain it.

     NOTE :

  • Consume the raisins first by chewing them well followed by milk.
  • Consume it at night as a last thing.
  • You will see the results, the next morning only.
  • In case of severe constipation, follow it regularly for 3 days.



Castor oil is an another useful remedy for constipation. It might taste awful but a  great laxative as it increases the movement of the intestines and helps clean them out.castor1

  1. Add 2 tsp of castor oil to warm milk or warm water.
  2. Consume it at night as a last thing.
  3. It can also be given to children above 12 but.. 1 tsp at a time.
  4. It is also beneficial in piles, eye problems, itching or some skin problems.



Oranges are great, when it comes to that age old and chronic constipation problem. It contains Vitamin C and rich in fiber too. Therefore, it can give respite from

  1. Have a  juice of 2 oranges daily in the morning while empty stomach.
  2. Follow it regularly for 8-10 days to get rid of the problem permanently.
  3. For better results, do not add any salt, sugar or ice to it.



Triphala powder is said to be stomach’s best friend in ayurveda. It is made by mixing 3  ayurvedic constituents i.e amla, harad and baheda in some exact proportion. Being stomach friendly, it works as a great cure for constipation.triphala-633x319

  1. Consume 1 tsp or around 3-4 gms of this triphala powder along with 200 gms of warm milk or else warm water.
  2. Consume it at night before going to bed.
  3. You can also have it daily, as it has no side effects.


♥  ISABGOL (psyllium husk):

Isabgol also referred as psyllium husk is a common yet effective health supplement used to treat constipation or other digestive problems.   • Mix 5-10 gms  of isabgol in 200 gms of hot milk.
  • It will turn thick just like a custard.
  • Add some sugar to it and consume it followed by some hot milk.
  • Consume it preferably at night before going to bed.


  • Consume 1-2 tsp of psyllium husk with warm water at bed time.



Along with following the above said remedies, it is beneficial to also include these easy tips in your daily routine to  get rid of that uneasy situation ASAP.

  • One should include more of fresh raw vegetables, fruits and sprouted grains in your diet instead of that cooked food.
  • Chew your food properly.
  • Drink a glass of water kept overnight in copper jug or pot as first thing in the morning.
  • Do not drink water immediately after your meal instead drink at least after an hour.
  • Walk daily for sometime.
  • Try to avoid eating anything after sunset.
